Sunday tour
We just had a comprehensive driving tour of the city. We saw 3 Ebola units- one up and we'll well established and the other two not open yet. Of the two not open one was Chinese and the other a collaboration of Russian, German and US. Those two have taken over the national soccer stadium. We saw all the ministry buildings, the compound where our Marines are stationed, and many schools of higher learning- most religious based. We went up to the Ducor Hotel which used to be a 300 room, 5 star hotel overlooking Monrovia and the ocean until it was bombed by the war and then looted. We were asked to leave and certainly no pictures were allowed though I got one before I knew that. I guess you have to foot the Ministry of Information and purchase a permit to photograph stuff. We walked around one beach side resort in the town of Myrtle Beach (I know!) that was truly swank. All white folks were there. Saw a dude on a motor bike with a down jacket on! Yikes!

Wow! It sounds like you've really been able to see a fair bit already. Thanks for sharing your experience-- it's fascinating!
ReplyDeleteJust got caught up with your blog today. Taking a few days to get acclimated is nice. So much to learn!
ReplyDeleteJust saw all the updates. Thanks for posting. It sounds like another world - with ETU's taking over the soccer stadium. What is is like to see the ravages of such a recent war? Hope you can stay flexible - I think you are well designed for that mission. I bet managing boredom and being patient is part of the equation. Lots of love, Jennifer
ReplyDeleteThanks for your descriptions! I'm scrutinizing the photos looking for more clues to understand what it's like there. Love the vegetation! You are helping to teach us what that world is like. Keep it all coming! Be well, keep safe. Much love from your Alaska pals.
